The site at Cherry Avenue Park, Kildare was subject to archaeological assessments in the form of geophysical survey 20R146 and test trenching targeting anomalies identified.
A total of 23 test trenches were excavated, totalling 506m of linear trenches. Each trench measured between c. 0.3-1m in depth. The natural varied significantly throughout the site, accounting for some of the geophysical anomalies detected.
Two features were identified; one was a north-east to south-west-aligned ditch corresponding with Anomaly C exposed in Field 2 in Trenches 1-3; the other was a possible kiln, accounting for one of the anomalies labelled as ?Archaeology exposed in Field 3 in Trench 13.
The ditch contained glazed ceramics and post-medieval black glazed earthenware. It was interpreted as a modern boundary/field ditch. The possible kiln C3 was cut into natural sand, was filled by brown sandy clay with charcoal inclusions sealing an orange oxidised sand. Where exposed, it measured 1.28m in length, 0.62m in width and was 0.15m deep. It was preserved in situ.
