An archaeological assessment was carried out as part of a Request for Further Information from Kildare County Council for a proposed residential development located in the townland of Allenwood Middle, Allenwood, County Kildare. A test excavation was carried out as part of the assessment which concluded that no known archaeological remains will be impacted by the proposed development. The assessment found that the area was covered in peat bog with no clearly defined settlement evidence emerging until the late 19th century when a school, smithy and a small cluster of buildings develop around the crossroads. The site inspection found no evidence of sub-surface archaeological remains although the site is covered with layers of peat which can preserve archaeological remains. The test excavation found no trace of any archaeological remains. The excavation confirmed that Field 3 to the west was artificially raised by up to 2m.
