An archaeological assessment was carried out as part of a Request for Further Information from Kildare County Council (Planning Ref: 20/1397). Two test trenches were excavated at the rear of the property. The remains of a 19th-century boundary wall and concrete yard surface showed that an earlier enclosed yard had been demolished and cleared to make way for the current building and carpark. It is quite possible that the various redevelopments and reconfigurations of the site have destroyed much of the archaeological evidence that may have once existed on the site. Traces of this earlier activity were found during a 2018 test excavation, as various pits and sherds of medieval pottery were uncovered. It should be noted that due to the presence of buildings, boundary walls, sheds etc. on the site, the test excavation was limited in scope.
