Monitoring was carried out on part of a watermain scheme – the Farranfore Trunk Main, south-east of Tralee. Two parts of the wider scheme were proposed for monitoring: the Ash-Hill Section and Ash-Hill to Moriarty’s Cross. In the event only one part of the works was monitored. A 500m section of open-cut trench was observed at the western end of the scheme in the townland of Lisardboola, the southern part of the trench ran through the Zone of Notification for KE038-108 (enclosure).
The trench was 0.8m wide and 1.8m deep, revealing that the modern road surface and underlying make-up layer, totalling 0.3m, directly overlie sandstone bedrock. No archaeological deposits or features were identified during monitoring of the trench.
