Archaeological test trenching was carried out on 15 November 2021. The site lies on a steep south-facing slope. The north-west corner of the site is located adjacent to the zone of archaeological potential associated with ringfort – rath KE067-006.
A total of 4 test trenches were excavated. All trenches measured 1.8m in width. In total, 131m of linear trenches were excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural. In general, following the removal of brownish-grey sandy clay sod and topsoil measuring between 0.35-0.55m, a natural reddish-orange sandy clay with stone inclusions was exposed. Linear features were exposed in all excavated test trenches. These were sectioned and consisted of drains and furrows. In the north part of Trench 3, a possible pit was investigated and was found to represent clearance/root burning. Finds encountered comprised of modern bottle glass sherds and were not retained. No features of archaeological significance were exposed, and no archaeological finds were encountered.
