The proposed site consists of stables, car park, dung storage area, effluent/water collection tank, hay barn and associated ancillary works. The site is a green field site and is currently under grass and is just under 1ha in size. Due to the proposed site being larger than 0.5 hectares in size, Kerry County Council added the archaeological condition that the site be tested prior to being granted approval.
In total 10 trenches all running north-east/south-west were excavated. The topsoil was a dark brown black moist peaty clay with a moderate density of angular stone inclusions. The subsoil was a light grey compact clay with a high density of stone inclusions. Due to the stones the interface between both layers was very poor and intermixing had occurred.
No archaeology found.
