Archaeological testing was undertaken with regard to a planning application to construct a single house at Ballintleave, Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry.

Four north-south-orientated linear test trenches (T1-T4) of a combined total length of 285m were opened across the footprint of the proposed development. Topsoil was incrementally removed using track machine with a 1.5m wide flat grading bucket.

Topsoil in all four trenches comprised of black organic material with an average depth of between 0.1m and 0.3m at maximum. It overlay bright sandy light grey to light yellow/mid-orange sterile subsoil. Patches of peat, consistent with the darkness of the topsoil, were also noted in each of the four cuttings.

Nothing of an archaeological nature was found in the test trenches.
