Licensed archaeological testing at Dooaghs and Treanoughtragh townlands, Dooks Golf Club, Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry was requested in response to a planning application to change the use of agricultural land to a golf short game practice area. A series of 24 north-north-west/south-south-east and 2 north-east/south-west orientated linear test trenches (T1 -T26) with a total of linear 1990m were opened across the footprint of the proposed development site. Topsoil varied in depth between 0.2m to 0.5m and up to 0.6m in the southern limits of T1-T3 where it overlay wind-driven sand to a depth of 0.6m. Test trenches T15-T19 exposed blanket bog to a depth of 1.1m that overlay silty sand below. In that context where the blanket bog was manifest, these cuttings (T15-T19) were excavated to a depth of 0.5m. The extent of the stratified windblown beach sand records a natural event associated with the development/expansion of the nearby dune complex in the area. A number of modern land drains were revealed including a PVC drain in the peaty area. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted.
