2021:008 - CASTLEDRUM, Kerry

Archaeological testing at Castledrum, Co. Kerry took place in the beginning of February 2021. The zone of notification (ZON) of a recorded enclosure, KE047-021001, and a standing stone, KE047-021002 partially extends within the north-west limits of the proposed development site. A series of twenty-one test trenches (T1-T21) extending for c.1725m were opened across the footprint of the site. Trenches were excavated with a 13.5-ton back-acting track machine using 1.5m-wide flat grading bucket. Four radiating test trenches (T18–T21) were opened within the ZON of enclosure KE047-021001. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted and no artefacts were recovered during testing.
