Archaeological monitoring was carried by Lydia Cagney and Patrick Walsh for open-cut trenching undertaken at Canal Road Lower in Galway City. The proposed scheme involved the laying of new water mains alongside the Eglington Canal which forms part of the ‘Rivers and Waterways’ Protected Structure (Reg. No. 8501/NIAH 30313013). No potential archaeological features, finds or deposits were noted during the course of monitoring. There was no impact on the Eglington Canal (Reg. No. 8501/NIAH 30313013) or any other Protected Structures associated with this scheme.
