A programme of archaeological testing was conducted on the site of a proposed housing development at Rossmacaffry, Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh on 18 February 2021. A total of four trenches were excavated.
Overall, the topsoil consisted of a mid-brown sandy clay transitioning to a more mixed nature approaching the natural subsoil layer. The subsoil consisted of a hard mottled light brown and orange clay containing occasional medium sub-angular stones. Several stone drains and traces of subsoilers (i.e. implements used for deep ploughing) were identified across the trenches. It was particularly noticeable that the north-western area was heavily disturbed. This was possibly justified by the existing water-related construction and pipes.
No archaeological features or artefacts were identified within the trenches during this investigation.
