Archaeological monitoring was recommended in a desktop assessment undertaken earlier by Faith Bailey of IAC in September 2015. This report recommended that all ground disturbances within the construction wayleave in the zone of notification for the recorded monuments (DU011-035 and DU011-101) in Swords and previously undisturbed greenfield areas in Malahide be intermittently monitored by a suitably qualified archaeologist.
The excavations were in two sections; The Malahide section was located between ITM 722340, 745206 and ITM 723168, 745291. And the Swords section was between ITM 718128, 746622 and ITM 719327, 746315.
No features or deposits of archaeological significance were uncovered during archaeological monitoring.
