Archaeological monitoring of all groundworks within the northern part of the site was carried out on 13 September 2021. The work was conducted by a 3-tonne tracked excavator. All groundworks within the site were monitored and included excavation of three foundation trenches which were c. 0.7m wide and excavated to a max. depth of 0.7m below present ground level. The exposed stratigraphy consisted of tarmac and hardcore overlying a disturbed mottled yellow/brown sandy clay with frequent inclusions of stones. Below it, a 19th/20th-century made-up ground consisting of mid-brown/grey sandy clay was partially excavated to a maximum depth of 0.18m. What appears to be a saltshaker and two complete bottles were retrieved: a clear milk bottle from Milk Bottles Limited (MBL) in Dublin and a brown Guinness bottle. The milk bottle bore the inscription: MBL THIS BOTTLE IS THE PROPERTY OF MILK BOTTLES LTD 1PT, and the Guinness bottle bore the inscription 1/2 PINT BOTTLE NO DEPOSIT NO RETURN. Foundations of the plot walls were visible in the east and west foundation trench. The natural subsoil was not exposed.
The layers encountered during monitoring were disturbed and of modern origin. No finds of archaeological significance were encountered. Consequently, no further archaeological mitigation is required. The work is now complete.
