Archaeological testing was carried out in the rear garden of a residence, ‘Stonehenge’, Killiney Avenue, Co. Dublin in advance of the proposed development of a single dwelling. Evidence for the construction of Stonehenge in the 1870s was identified in the two test trenches opened. This includes two pits filled with general building debitage in Trench 1, while the opening of Trench 2 also established that the natural north-east/south-western slope was artificially built up with quarried stone in order to provide a more gradual slope for the garden. Material associated with the construction of Stonehenge and the landscaping of the garden were the only features that were identified in the trenches. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were identified during the archaeological testing at this site.
