A programme of archaeological test trenching was carried out at Upper Main Street, Rush, Co. Dublin in March 2020.
The programme of archaeological testing was informed by geophysical survey (21R0054), undertaken in March by Ian Russell of Archaeological Consultancy Services Unit Ltd (ACSU).
Archaeological test trenching was carried out on site using a 14-tonne tracked excavator. A total of 16 test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development. Each trench measured 1.8m width and a total of 873m of linear trenches were excavated. The site is situated on a natural sand bank and the trenches revealed a brown sand topsoil and sod (C1) that extended to a depth of 0.4-0.8m and was overlying a mottled yellow natural sand (C2).
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified and no finds were recovered.
