Advanced archaeological testing was undertaken within the townlands of Tullyrain and Drumneth, County Down from 18 May 2021 to 1 July 2021. This involved a total of 32 test trenches all measuring 30m x 2m dug by a 360⁰ track machine fitted with a toothless ditching bucket under constant supervision of a suitably qualified archaeologist.
Some features of archaeological significance were identified in Trench 9 (T9) at Drumneth. An oval-shaped pit containing burnt bone fragments was identified measuring 1.5m x 0.85m and 0.1m in depth, as well as 4 associated post-holes, irregular in shape, measuring 0.3m in diameter and 0.2m in depth.
Further archaeological investigation would be recommended.
