An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on 26 July 2021 at Nendrum monastic site on Mahee Island, Co Down.
A replacement telegraph pole had to be erected within the Scheduled Area of the early medieval monastic site. Scheduled Monument Consent was acquired by KN Circet/Openreach, and detailed that all invasive works be monitored.
The removal of the old pole, re-excavation of the hole left by the old pole, and erection of the new pole were all monitored under archaeological supervision. Nothing of an archaeological nature was uncovered.
