Archaeological monitoring was carried out during the laying of pipeline along Shore Road, Killybegs, Co. Donegal.
An archaeological screening assessment was undertaken by Christina O’Regan of IAC Archaeology in February 2018 in order to ascertain the potential impact of a proposed scheme on the archaeological and historical resource that may exist within the area. The assessment recommended that if open-cut techniques were to be used for construction that all ground disturbances located within 30m of Medieval House DG097-015001 be subject to archaeological monitoring.
Consequently, in alignment with this recommendation, archaeological monitoring of a 75m section of pipeline through the zone of notification for recorded monument DG097-015001 was undertaken over the course of three days in September 2021.
Monitoring of ground works revealed no features or artefacts of archaeological significance; thus, no further mitigation measures were deemed necessary.
