A programme of archaeological monitoring carried out at Magheracar, Co. Donegal. The development works entail the construction of a dwelling house, associated driveway, and connection to the mains for water and sewer services, and all associated groundworks. The overall size of the development area is 0.181ha.
The proposed development is in proximity to DG109-001---- Castle, DG109-001001- Midden and LE001-034---- Linear Earthwork.
Due to the proximity of the proposed development to some recorded monuments the planning department of Donegal County Council recommended that the proposed development at the site be subject to archaeological mitigation in the form of archaeological monitoring of all topsoil removal groundworks during the construction phase.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping was conducted on 30 August 2021. No archaeological material was uncovered during the monitoring of topsoil stripping. The development of the proposed dwelling house will have no effect either physical or visual on recorded monuments DG109-001---- Castle, DG109-001001- Midden and LE001-034---- Linear Earthwork.
