The proposal relates to an archaeological condition on an outline planning permission for the erection of a single storey dwelling, access and associated services (C/2005/0218/O and C/2009/0258/RM).
The site is located 370m east of 18 Ballyclough Road, Bushmills, Co L’Derry potentially impacting on the remains of souterrain LDY007:074, which, due to agricultural improvements, has no above ground expression and its precise location is not known.
Testing was undertaken on 20 July 2021. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered in the 170m of test trenching opened along the line of the proposed access route. The testing of the proposed house site consisted of three trenches, which revealed that the ground on the western side of the proposed house plot was wetter than the east, even though the river was on this side, with soft clay subsoil exposed. However nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered here either.
