The proposal relates to an archaeological condition on an outline planning permission for the erection of a single-storey dwelling, access and associated services (C/2005/0217/O and C/2009/0256/RM).
The site is located 130m east of 18 Ballyclough Road, Bushmills, Co. L’Derry, potentially impacting on the remains of souterrain LDY007:074, which, due to agricultural improvements, has no above-ground expression and its precise location is not known.
Testing was undertaken on 20 July 2021. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered in the 240m of test trenching opened along the line of the proposed access route. The testing of the proposed house site consisted of four trenches, which revealed that the ground on the western side of the proposed house plot was wetter than the east, with soft clay subsoil exposed. However nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered here either.
