Test trenching was undertaken on the route of an underpass as part of the N73 Clogher Cross to Waterdyke Road Realignment Scheme, Co. Cork. The trenching was carried out in two tilled fields either side of the N73.
The test trenching revealed remnants of recent agricultural activity (drains) and two small pits or possible post-holes that were recorded and excavated as site Waterdyke 4. One feature (measuring 0.58m by 0.66m and 0.16m deep) was dated to the Early-Middle Neolithic and the other (measuring 0.56m by 0.5m and 0.38m deep) to the Late Neolithic. A flint flake is the only artefact from the site.
