Archaeological testing was carried out over the course of two days from 9 July 2021 at Tirnanean and Currahevern West, Co. Cork.
A total of 3 trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area, which measured 559 linear metres in total.
The trenches targeted open green field space and linear geophysical anomalies to fully investigate the archaeological potential of the site. Two of the western trenches were not excavated due to ground conditions. A probable former field boundary orientated east–west is noted to the north. The disturbance in the northern extent of the site is from the adjacent Co-op storage yard.

The topsoil across the site consisted of a mid-brown sandy silt overlying a plough soil consisting of an orangey brown sandy silt. The natural subsoil consisted of a compact clayey sand that varied in colour from yellow to white to bright orange.

Agricultural features including a 19th-century field boundary, plough furrows and a possible field drain that correspond with linear anomalies identified in the geophysical survey were recorded.

No archaeology was identified in any of the excavated test trenches and there is no predicted impact on the archaeological resource.
