Test excavation was a requirement in relation to a planning application made for an extension to a nursing home complex which had been built both within and adjacent to a partially levelled ringfort (CO070-047----). It stands on a hill overlooking the Sullane River to the south and Macroom town to the east. The proposed extension was on the eastern side of the building c.7m from an extant section of the ringfort bank and just c.3m from the conjectured line of this bank. Much of the footprint had been previously developed leaving room for only a single test trench, 11m long by 0.3m wide. 0.25m of a mid-brown sandy topsoil overlay a stony, mid-brown subsoil. No archaeology was found.
