Test excavation was required ahead of the construction of an extension to an existing cattle yard. This was necessary due to the presence of a cluster of 5 recorded monuments c80m to the north-east, centered around an ecclesiastical enclosure and possible church.
The site was near the base of a south-western facing steep slope and just a few kilometers from the south coast.
Two trenches were excavated in a field of improved pasture. Each was 28m long and were c.2.5m apart. The stratigraphy consisted of between 0.05m and 0.15m of a light brown, sandy topsoil which overlay an orange boulder clay. No archaeology was found.
