Archaeological testing of the site of a proposed private dwelling at Ballyhoolahan West, Boherbue, County Cork was undertaken on Monday 21 June 2021 in order to comply with an RFI from Cork County Council (Ref no. 21/04418). Three test trenches, totaling a combined length of 130m, were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development site. No in-situ archaeological remains were encountered within the excavated trenches.
The testing programme revealed that almost the entirety of the proposed development area had been subject to past disturbances in the form of ground truncation/levelling, reclamation activity and soil/material introduction. This activity has reduced the likelihood of the survival of in-situ archaeological remains within the site, including those associated with the recorded fulcaht fia (CO022-147001-), to a negligible level.
