Archaeological testing was carried out at a proposed residential development site south of the crossroads in the centre of Ruan village, immediately north of the ruins of the medieval church (National Monument No. 17, CL025-07001). The northern part of the site contains an existing public house, residence and carpark, whilst the southern and south-eastern part is greenfield. Earlier geophysical survey (R000539) did not reveal any features of archaeological potential and testing examined the greenfield area. Ten trenches were excavated; the trenches did not encounter archaeological features, deposits or artefacts.
