Monitoring of rejuvenation and enhancement of the streetscape of Main Street, Ennistimon, Co. Clare, encountered nothing of archaeological significance. Service diversion trenches were opened in various locations within the scheme footprint but were principally concentrated on the footpaths and occasionally on the road of Main Street. The trenches were dug within existing service cuts for water, waste-water, and electricity. No natural subsoil was exposed in any of these trenches. The pavement and tarmac road surfaces excavated were of the order of 0.1-0.2m thick (including gravel underlay) and beneath this broken shale was observed. In the sections of some trenches in-situ shale bedrock was seen to immediately underlie the finished pavement and tarmac surfaces.
