Archaeological monitoring of initial topsoil stripping and excavation of foundations for the development were carried out at Tonygarrow, Glencree, County Wicklow in July 2020.

An area of 20m x 50m, to accommodate a residential structure, was initially stripped of topsoil to a depth of 0.2m (Plate 1), along with the access. This was followed by an area measuring 5m x 10m, which was stripped to a depth of 0.4m. Topsoil consisted of a mid-brown silty clay. Natural subsoil was not exposed during this initial topsoil stripping and as a result the excavation of the foundations for the residential structure was also subject to archaeological monitoring. Subsoil consisted of a light orange-brown stoney clay and was encountered at a depth of c. 0.5m below existing ground level.

Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during monitoring.
