Test trenching took place at the site of a proposed development at Greenhills Road, Corporation Lands, Wicklow Town.
An archaeological impact assessment report was prepared by Irish Archaeological Consultancy Ltd in 2018 and submitted with the Part 8 application by Wicklow County Council. Further archaeological assessment in the form of a geophysical survey was recommended in the report which was completed by Joanna Leigh Surveys in 2019 (Licence 19R0059).
The geophysical survey identified short curvilinear trends in the data which were interpreted as being of possible archaeological interest. Targeted test trenching of all these anomalies was carried out and confirmed that none of these were of archaeological significance and were either agricultural or geological in origin.
