Archaeological monitoring (including metal detection under licence 20R0036) was completed in advance of the construction of a 500m-long water main, 3km north-west of Wellingtonbridge, County Wexford, on 10 February 2020.
The water main will travel north-east to south-west along the verge of a small tertiary road in the townland of Taylorstown and will pass through the archaeological constraint area associated with WX040-046001 Taylorstown Tower House, WX040-046002 medieval house and a bawn wall WX040-046003.
The topsoil was 0.15m in depth and overlay fragmented shale bedrock. At the eastern end of the proposed route a mid-yellowish brown silty clay overlay the bedrock. No finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed within the footprint of the pipeline.
