Testing was undertaken at Tullycanna, Co. Wexfordin advance of a proposed development, which will involve the construction of a single dwelling as well as a sceptic tank, soakage area and a driveway.

The proposed site is located in the same field as a moated site (WX041-034), which is also listed in the castles of County Wexford (Jeffrey 1979). Although there are no visible remains of the site surviving above ground and the proposed site does not impact on the monument, the potential remains for sub-surface features relating to the medieval period and associated to the moated site to survive sub-surface. As such an archaeological assessment was requested by Wexford County Council and testing was undertaken on 21 March 2020, when six trenches were excavated.

Testing was undertaken by a mechanical 13-tonne tracked digger fitted with a 1.8m wide ditching bucket. Non-natural features were recorded, and soil conditions noted. No features of archaeological significance were uncovered during the test trenching.
