Twelve trenches were excavated across the site in advance of development. The site was previously subject to a desk-based archaeological impact assessment and geophysical survey (Licence 20R0045). Archaeological features were noted during the testing.
A possible circular enclosure was identified in the geophysical survey. Testing proved this to be an archaeological feature. The ditch was 1.4m wide by 0.7m deep. It contained two fills with a lens of charcoal marking the uppermost horizon of the top fill. It is capped by 0.3m of topsoil. The interior sloped to the south, with one shallow charcoal-filled pit identified in the interior. Approximately 40m to the north two circular pits, 0.4m and 0.35m in diameter, were identified. The fills were charcoal-rich and contained small flecks of cremated bone. Further archaeological mitigation in relation to this feature is pending. The metal detection survey of the trenches and resultant spoil did not reveal anything of archaeological interest.
