This brownfield area is comprised of the portion of two fields with an intervening boundary wall. The northernmost field was the location of a now-demolished building while the southern field comprises a portion of the school playing fields. A portion of the site lies within the Zone of Notification for WA031-040, Historic Town Dungarvan.
Test-excavations took place on 27 January 2020 in mixed weather conditions. Three trenches were excavated using a 13-tonne mechanical excavator equipped with a 2m grading bucket. Minor amendments to the Method Statement test trench layout were made due to the presence of buried services and concrete foundations for earlier buildings. The natural boulder clay consisted of compact stony orange brown clay. No archaeological features or material were identified on the exposed subsoil surface.
