Unlicensed monitoring was carried out at New Street, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary on 21st May 2020.
Two small slit trenches sited within the public footpath to the east side of New Street, Carrick-on-Suir, were excavated as part of advance site investigation work associated with a Council proposal to install existing overhead power lines below footpath level on the east side of the street. The slit trenches were orientated east-west across the public footpath, perpendicular to, and outside of, No. 23 New Street (ST1) and outside No. 13 New Street (ST2).
The remains of a cobble stone surface, surviving 0.4m below the surface of the footpath, were uncovered in slit trench 1. No other features or deposits of archaeological significance were identified. Gravel deposits above and below the cobble stone surface contained fragmented animal bone, no additional finds of archaeological significance were recovered.
