A programme of licensed archaeological monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of a single residential dwelling at Kilburry West townland in Cloneen Village, County Tipperary was conducted on 1 December 2020. The development will consist of a residential dwelling with a domestic garage, waste water treatment system and polishing filter and site entrance. The site is located within the north-east portion of the constraint of a deer park (TS071-045-).
The stratigraphy observed throughout the site consisted of a mid-brown silty clay topsoil with a moderate inclusion of small and large sub-angular stones and occasional inclusions of modern ceramics and glass sherds at average 0.3m in depth. The subsoil consisted of a mottled light brown silty clay with frequent small stone and occasional larger stones and some gravel bands and stone variation to the west of the site. The subsoil was primary undisturbed apart from some root activity within the footprint of the garage and some animal burrows to the south-west. No artefacts, features or deposits of an archaeological nature were encountered during the topsoil stripping.
