Leggatinty 4 was excavated in advance of construction of the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project in County Roscommon by Archaeological Management Solutions Ltd (AMS) for Roscommon County Council (RCC) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). It was identified during Stage (i)a Standard Test Excavations, carried out by AMS under Ministerial Direction (Direction No. A077, Registration No. E5070) (Hardy 2021).
The archaeological remains consisted of two parallel ditches on a north-east/south-west orientation c. 1m apart running across the road take. They most likely represent a field boundary pre-dating 1838, as shown on the first-edition six-inch OS map (1838), and no longer extant by 1914 during the production of the 25-inch OS map (1914).
