Kildalloge 7 was excavated in advance of construction of the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project in County Roscommon by Archaeological Management Solutions (AMS) for Roscommon County Council (RCC) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). The site consisted of an L-shaped stone wall, a cobbled surface, a stone-lined drain and an unlined drain. This structure is marked on the first-edition six-inch Ordnance Survey (OS) map (1838) and was highlighted in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project (site designated CHC 58; Roughan & O’Donovan-AECOM 2017). The subsurface remains at this location were subsequently identified during Stage (i)a Test Excavations carried out by AMS under Ministerial Direction (No. A077, Registration No. E5070) (Hardy 2021).
The remains at Kildalloge 7 comprised an L-shaped wall foundation, an area of rough cobbling, with a later stone-lined drain and an unlined earth-cut drain. The two extant sides of the L-shaped wall were orientated north–south and east–west, with a combined length of 10.5m, a width of c.0.35m and maximum height of 0.05m. It was not possible to determine the typology of the structure. The presence of seven post-medieval sherds embedded in the cobble surface and a George III coin dated to 1807, however, suggests the structure may have been used as dwelling. Several non-stratified artefacts were also found in the course of excavation. These include a copper-alloy strap, an unidentified iron object, an iron nail shaft and ten sherds of post-medieval pottery. As the structure does not appear on the 25-inch OS map (1914), it appears to have been abandoned in the post-Famine period.
