2020:010 - CARTRON MORE, Roscommon

Fadó Archaeology were commissioned to carry out archaeological testing at Cartron More, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. The proposed works entail the construction of a single storey dwelling, a septic tank and all associated site development works, in an area of 0.5 acres. The proposed development is in the vicinity of RO014-025— Ringfort Rath.

Testing of the proposed development site was agreed with Roscommon Planning Authority as part of pre-planning requirements. Testing took place on 1 February 2020. The ground investigation works comprised the mechanical excavation of a series of seven test trenches across the proposed development area with the use of a machine equipped with a 1.5m wide graded bucket. No material of archaeological nature was noted during testing.
