Test excavation was undertaken on 12-13 November 2020 at Daingean Road, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. The site comprises 3.6ha which is currently set out in pasture. A geophysical survey (Licence 19R0264; O’Hara 2020) undertaken in October 2020 by R. O’Hara, A. O’Connell and B. Korfanty identified magnetic anomalies of potential archaeological origin.
A total of 12 trenches (approx. 895 linear metres) were excavated by mechanical excavator under archaeological supervision. Trenches were evenly spaced across the available area and placed to target the possible features identified by geophysical survey and to ascertain the general archaeological potential of the site.
No archaeological features were identified.
