A programme of archaeological test trenching was carried out in advance of the proposed single dwelling development in Longfield Etra townland, in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.
A total of three test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development. Each trench measured 1.8m in width and in total 65m of linear trenches were excavated. In general, the trenches revealed mid-brown sandy clay topsoil and sod with a combined depth of c. 0.34–0.63m, overlying yellow-reddish-brown boulder clay with some natural stone pockets along the base.
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed and no finds were recovered.
