As a condition of planning to build a domestic dwelling on the site, it has been requested that a site assessment be carried out. In addition to relevant documentary research, the excavation of a series of test trenches across the footprint of the development was also undertaken. Test trenching was carried out on 15 August 2020. Two parallel test trenches were excavated to determine the nature and extent of any archaeological potential. A mechanical JCB 3CX excavator with a toothless bucket was utilised to excavate the trenches. A modern field boundary ditch was uncovered running diagonally in the first test trench. A domestic water pipe trench was discovered running transversely across both test trenches. A soak away pit for rainwater runoff from the existing roof was also discovered in one of the test trenches. No archaeological deposits were uncovered.
