Monitoring was undertaken on 8 December 2020 in advance of a proposed development at Rodanstown, Co. Meath, which will involve the construction of a single dwelling as well as percolation/soakage area, and a driveway leading from the entrance to the field at its south-east corner.
The monitoring was undertaken as a condition of planning from Meath County Council (planning reference RA/170712 and also RA/191169), 'due to the proximity of the development to Rodanstown motte (ME049-019) and church and graveyard (ME049-021 and ME049-021001)', which are visible from the site.
Monitoring was undertaken of two open strips (for the house and associated garage) and three additional strips over the proposed access route to the site as well as the planned percolation area. Excavation was undertaken by a mechanical 13-tonne tracked digger fitted with a 1.8m-wide ditching bucket.
No features of archaeological significance were uncovered during monitoring and no further archaeological works are recommended for the site.
