A previous assessment of the northern and eastern margins of the development site had been undertaken some months earlier. More lands became available and were assessed under an extension to the earlier licence. Eight trenches using a 16-tonne tracked excavator with a 2m grading bucket were excavated. Excavation proceeded in level spits no greater than 0.2m. All potential features identified within the trenches were tested to determine their archaeological nature, extent, composition and depth and to ascertain potential dating material. Evidence for the earlier landscaping of the site in the form of introduced soils was present in the eastern and northern areas.
No features, structures or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the course of the test-excavation. Two sherds of medieval pottery were retrieved from the topsoil.
