The proposed development of a dwelling house was partially within the zone of archaeological notification of LE031-082---- Historic Town of Jamestown, Co. Leitrim.
A programme of pre-development test trenching works was undertaken within the site. Seven trenches were mechanically excavated using a graded bucket 1.5m wide in the footprint of the proposed house, driveway to the rear and front, and the access road. Parallel trenches were excavated at 5m intervals across the area of the proposed house and adjacent driveways. Further trenches were placed in the proposed front access road and along the southern boundary of the site at the closest point to the site of Jamestown House. The total area excavated comprised 138.66m of trench.
No archaeological material was identified within the proposed development area during the testing trenching.
