As part of granted planning permission to build a dwelling house it was required that a programme of archaeological testing be undertaken as the site is located close to KK013-026, classified as a motte, located c. 40m to the west of the development site.
A total of four test trenches were opened on the imprint of the proposed works. All trenches were featureless. Modern disturbance had occurred at the south-east end of trench No. 2. The natural deposition was dominated by a very high (water-rolled) stone content within sandy clay/sands. The north-west end of trench No. 2 and all of trench No. 3 were dominated by sand beneath the topsoil. Communication with two local landowners indicated the area was commercially quarried for sand and gravel up until 30/40 years ago.
