As part of Further Information for planning permission to build a dwelling house, driveway and associated site works at Freshford, Co. Kilkenny it was required that a programme of archaeological testing be undertaken. Located on the opposite side of the public road to the pasture field where the house will be sited is a motte (KK013-026).
A total of five test trenches were opened. The nearest trench to the monument was located 60m to its west. Other than a small spread of burning within test trench No. 3, all trenches were featureless. The isolated patch of burning may have been associated with in situ burning of previous tillage farming.
