As part of granted planning permission to develop a glamping site at Legan, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny it was required that works associated with the project be archaeologically monitored as the glamping site is within the constraint area for a castle, unclassified (KK028-026001), an ogham stone (KK028-026002) and a bawn (KK028-026003).

The ground works associated with the glamping development were limited and entailed the installing of a new wastewater system feeding a new percolation area via a newly diverted wastewater service pipe. This new wastewater treatment system and percolation area were located in a paddock area sited to the south-east of the extant remains of Legan Castle, a two-storey gatehouse (KK028-026001) and ogham stone (KK028-026002). There is no extant trace of the bawn (KK028-026003). The nearest point of the works to the two-storey gatehouse was c. 20m to the south-east.

Nothing was found in the course of the archaeological monitoring that could in anyway be associated with Legan Castle and the bawn. A thin, stone trunking layer was uncovered beneath the topsoil both in the percolation area and part of the wastewater treatment system area. Within the percolation area a pit containing modern dumped material was revealed, whilst an imported topsoil was uncovered in the new wastewater service pipe trench.
