Monitoring was recommended as a condition of planning during upgrade works to the Kilkenny City Rural Water Supply Scheme. The nearest archaeological monument to the new reservoir site is the church and graveyard, and possible earlier ecclesiastical enclosure (KK02304:01-03) in Outrath. A full archaeological presence was maintained during the removal of topsoil at the reservoir site and the wayleave for a water mains pipeline from the reservoir through greenfield sites to a regional road in Grevine East and Wallslough townlands. Thereafter, a watching brief was maintained during trenching on the roadside for a distance of 4km. No features or finds of archaeological significance were noted in any of the greenfield areas or on the roadside.
