Test-excavations were carried out at Barnhall Road, Leixlip, Co. Kildare between 27 and 29 October 2020. Work was undertaken as part of an archaeological impact assessment relating to the proposed construction of a logistics warehouse with ancillary offices, car parking and ancillary roadworks.
In line with the method statement 10% of the proposed development site was subjected to archaeological test-excavation.
A total of 54 test trenches were machine-excavated across the site. Four of the 58 planned test trenches (#15, #16, #43 & #58) were not excavated, due to constraints posed by mature trees on the site, and by the location of a sprinkler system.
Excavated material consisted primarily of a silty mid-brown topsoil, over light brown clayey silty subsoil.
No evidence of archaeological activity was found during excavations.
